Colour Blind ……by Mihir Mulay
How can I play with colours,
When Red reminds me of the genocides and the Naxalites?
When Green reminds me of the fundamentalists and the vanishing greens?
When Blue reminds me of the cruel porn industry and Dalit politics?
When Orange reminds me of the flames of power and the saffron mask?
When Yellow reminds me of the Taj Mahal and the endangered tiger?
When Black reminds me of 100 $ a barrel and the dry gunpowder?
How can I not play with colours,
When Red reminds me of unadulterated love?
When Green reminds me of hope and life?
When Blue reminds me of the boundless sky?
When Orange reminds me of the rising sun?
When Yellow reminds me of brightness and energy?
When Black reminds me of the carbon that transforms into a diamond?
How can I, how can I not?
This poem was published on March 23, 2008 (http://pencil-thoughts.blogspot.com/2008/03/colour-blind.html) by Mihir about a year and half ago. The photographs were shot by me just a few weeks ago in July 2009 during one day outing on a weekend. When Mihir, an avid blogger (http://pencil-thoughts.blogspot.com/), was critiquing my Flickr images and I was critiquing his blogs, we suddenly realized that Mihir’s poem “Colour Blind” adorns my photograph “रंगांची दुनिया” very well. And that is how this particular photoblog was borne.
Mihir, thanks a ton for lending me your poem.
